Syphilis is prevalent all over the world. According to WHO estimates, there are about 12 million new cases worldwide every year, mainly in South Asia, Southeast Asia and sub Saharan Africa. In recent years, syphilis has grown rapidly in China, and has become the sexually transmitted disease with the largest number of reported cases. Among the reported syphilis, latent syphilis accounts for the majority, and primary and secondary syphilis are also common. The number of reported cases of congenital syphilis is also increasing.
Treponema pallidum is found in the skin and mucous membrane of syphilis patients. In the sexual contact with syphilis patients, those who are not sick may get sick if their skin or mucous membrane is slightly damaged. Very few can be transmitted through blood transfusion or channels. Acquired syphilis (acquired) early syphilis patients are the source of infection. More than 95% of them are infected through dangerous or unprotected sexual behaviors, and a few are infected through kissing, blood transfusion, contaminated clothing, etc. Fetal syphilis is transmitted by pregnant women suffering from syphilis. If the pregnant women with primary, secondary and early syphilis are latent, the probability of transmission to the fetus is quite high.
