World First Aid Day 2023: These first aid knowledge can save lives in critical moments!

With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, people’s awareness of life and health is getting stronger and stronger. Many people lack first aid knowledge to handle unexpected injuries, resulting in missed opportunities for rescue. This year, 9 September marks the 24th World First Aid Day, with the theme “Digital Empowerment Around”.

Small accidents will inevitably occur in life, if you do not get timely treatment or improper operation, it is likely to cause physical harm to yourself and others.

so what first aid measures do we need to know in daily life?

Ways to handle animal bites Cats, dogs, and certain wild animals such as foxes, jackals, bats, raccoons, skunks, and mongooses can all develop rabies, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention makes clear.

If  bitten by a small animal such as a cat or dog, the following measures should be taken immediately:

  1. If bitten by a non-toxic pet, also treat the wound immediately, quickly wash the wound with clean water or soapy water, clean the wound thoroughly, and do not bandage the wound.
  2. If bitten by a poisonous pet and ulcers and inflammation appear in the mouth, do not suck blood through the mouth and go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.
  3. Wounds requiring rabies vaccination should be injected with rabies vaccine and bioantitoxin within 24 hours.
  4. During the vaccination period, care should be taken not to drink alcohol, strong tea, coffee; Also do not eat irritating foods such as peppers, shallots, garlic, etc.; Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive fatigue to prevent colds.

Some mosquitoes carry disease viruses or parasites such as malaria, dengue, yellow fever and Zika virus. If an infected mosquito bites a person, it is possible to transmit the virus or parasite to humans. If symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, rash, etc., should seek medical attention promptly.

Emergency treatment of mosquito bites:

  1. Cleaning: After being bitten by mosquitoes, the bite site should be thoroughly washed with clean or soapy water to avoid infection.
  2. Cold compress: Applying ice cubes or cold water to the bite area can relieve pain and itching.
  3. Use antipruritic ointment: You can apply some antipruritic ointment or liquid to reduce itching and discomfort.
  4. Avoid scratching: Try to avoid scratching the bite site to avoid infection and aggravating symptoms.
  5. Pay attention to observation: If systemic symptoms such as swelling, infection, fever, rash and other systemic symptoms appear at the bite site, seek medical treatment in time.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the most basic method of saving the lives of respiratory and cardiac arrest patients, using bare hands, using assistive devices and drugs to maintain artificial circulation, breathing and correct arrhythmias. Timely implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of AEDs can improve the success rate of rescue.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation “golden four minutes”:

  1. Assess the environment to ensure safety
  2. Check for responsiveness, tap the patient’s shoulder and call out to the patient
  3. If there is no response, immediately call the emergency number 120 and bring the nearby automated external defibrillator (AED) to the scene
  4. Continue to check the breathing, determine whether there is a carotid pulse, and observe the patient’s chest rise and fall for 5-10 seconds
  5. If the patient does not respond, the carotid pulse disappears, no breathing is found or only 1-2 near-death breaths are found, chest compressions are performed immediately

Through World First Aid Day, more first-aid knowledge will be popularized, so that more people can master first-aid techniques, save lives and reduce the degree of injury at the scene of the incident.

It is hoped that the promotion of World First Aid Day will once again arouse people’s attention and attention to first aid. Consciously establish a sense of protecting oneself and the life safety of others, so as to better serve others and society, contribute one’s own strength, and carry forward the spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual assistance and progress”.
