Enterovirus 71
●Enterovirus 71 (EV71) belongs to a vast group of viruses that replicate within the human gastrointestinal tract (intestines). Infection with EV71 can lead to a spectrum of illnesses, ranging from mild to severe, with potentially life-threatening complications. Incidences of EV71 infection are sporadic in Australia, with outbreaks occasionally reported in the country, particularly in regions like New South Wales (NSW) in 2012 and 2013. Meanwhile, in Asian countries, EV71 outbreaks have been documented over many years.
●Person-to-person transmission of the virus happens through the contamination of hands or objects (like toys) with infected feces, and subsequently, the virus is ingested by mouth. The virus can also spread through contact with the saliva, nasal mucus, or sputum (phlegm) of an infected individual. In cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease, direct contact with fluid from the blisters on the infected person can also facilitate virus transmission.
EV71 IgM Rapid Test
●The EV71 IgM Rapid Test Kit is a diagnostic tool designed to detect the presence of specific IgM antibodies against Enterovirus 71 (EV71) in a person’s blood sample. IgM antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to recent EV71 infection.
●The test kit utilizes a lateral flow immunoassay method, where EV71 antigens are immobilized on a test strip. When a blood sample is applied to the test strip, any EV71-specific IgM antibodies present in the blood will bind to the antigens if the person has been recently infected with EV71.
Advantages
-The EV71 IgM Rapid Test is suitable for use with serum, plasma, or whole blood samples.
-An affordable option for Enterovirus 71 disease detection and enables early treatment, reducing long-term healthcare costs
-The test kit has a high degree of specificity and accuracy, minimizing the risk of false positives
-Unlike conventional detection methods, this test requires only a simple blood sample, making it non-invasive and less painful for patients
