Detailed description
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), together with sheep border disease virus (BDV) and swine fever virus (CSFV), belongs to the flavivirus family, the genus of pestilencevirus. After BVDV infects cattle, its clinical symptoms can be manifested as mucosal diseases, diarrhea, abortion of mothers, stillbirth and malformation, etc., which have caused great economic losses to the cattle industry. The virus can also cause persistent infection, and cattle with persistent infection do not produce antibodies, and are lifelong with the virus and detoxification, which is the main reservoir of BVDV. Most of the persistent infected cattle have a healthy appearance and are not easy to find in the herd, which brings great difficulties to the purification of BVDV in the cattle farm. In addition to infecting cattle, BVDV can also infect pigs, goats, sheep and other ruminants, which brings great difficulties to effectively prevent the occurrence and spread of the disease.
